Penelo Oak, White Oak, Quercus alba

My friend the artist, Michael Brown sent me a beautiful photo of a tree from the NC flatlands, near Tarboro. He had stayed in a guesthouse by the tree, while painting a mural in town. Joel Bourne owns this property, formerly known as Penelo Plantation after Confederate General Cox’s wife Penelope. The big tree died last year. Hurricanes have blown most of his old trees down now.
